A friendly running club based in Cirencester!

RSE Club Report – It’s so hot in the shade, I decided to stay in the sun!

Salisbury Plain Marathon

Most people try to stay shaded on the hottest days of the year, other people run marathons in the blistering heat across a plain, where there’s absolutely no shade. RSE’s David Witnall is the latter, running the Salisbury Plain marathon, a trail run across the largest military training area in the UK. The route is a 1-lap circuit starting and finishing at the Old Fowler Barracks, following footpaths and byways.

Well done to Dave, who finished the course in 5:05:09!

On the hottest day of the year, it was never going to be easy or fun. The aim was to not get carried away and race it, but to spend some time on the feet ahead of Hope 24hr trail festival. Well it turned out to be fun, despite the heat, with stunning views, friendly marshals and checkpoints, and well marked routes. I may be back for the winter edition...

Cirencester Summer Sizzler

The clue is in the title for this hot and humid race, held in Cirencester Bathurst Estate. Hosted by fellow Cirencester AC, the course starts by the Old Kennels, before heading out on a 2-lap course featuring a tough stint up Ewe Pens. As part of the Glos. AAA road championship and RSE’s very own championship, the race was a sellout and over 40 RSE club members took on the challenge – that’s nearly 10% of all the runners that took part!

A race I always find tough, with that lovely steady gradient! I had a great run, achieving a course PB by a minute over last years time. Brilliant racing against other club members too, and an amazing turn out from RSE.
