Timings For Our Championship Handicap Races @ Cricklade 10k and Half Marathon

Hey gang.

So as you should all be aware by now, we’re using the Cricklade 10k and the half marathon as our handicap race for this seasons championship.

Elaine has explained previously the iterations and rules regarding the handicap, so I won’t explain them again here, but if you’re unsure or haven’t had a chance to read yet, then CLICK HERE TO SEE HER ORIGINAL POST OUTLINING ALL THE RELEVANT DETAILS.

I’ve been through all the race reports for the year to formulate your handicap time. I’ve omitted any trail runs as part of your handicap time as they’re so often wildly different to your road times, so we took the decision to leave them out completely.

As we’ve mentioned before, the handicap is a great opportunity to get some great points on the board for the overall championship and really shake things up!

It was a hell of a task compiling all this, so if you think I’ve missed you off or if you think your times don’t seem right, or if you’re marked as na N/A when you know you’ve done a race (of the same distance that you’re running on Sunday) since the start of the year, don’t hesitate to tell me in person at club, or via whatsapp (I’m ‘Coops’ on the group so you can just message me directly.)

So your handicap times for the relevant races on Sunday are as follows…

  • Nadine Brown – 49:23

RSE Race Report – 23rd September 2018

The Cotswold Challenge

The Cotswold Challenge is an annual event organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association open to both runners and walkers and includes 2 routes covering either 18 or 26.4 miles.  It is a circular hilly route from Birdlip Village Hall taking in Bisley, Slad Valley, Haresfield & Painswick Beacons and Coopers Hill.  All walkers/runners are required to self navigate the route.

On Saturday 22nd September RSEs Nadine Brown and Dave Whitlow took part in what was a very wet event completing the 26.4 mile route in 6:16:00.

Great effort from both of you.

Bristol Half Marathon

The Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon took place on a very wet Sunday 23rd September.

The course took runners under the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge with spectacular views along the Avon Gorge and Bristol Harbourside before entering the city centre.  With an electric atmosphere and music at 10 points along the course as well a cheer point from the Children’s Hospice South West,  the journey to the finish line was planned to be truly special.

First in for RSE was Rochelle Ravenscroft who completed the run in 2:03:13.  This was an improvement of 6 minutes 4 seconds from her time at the Worcester half marathon last week.

She was followed in by Vicki Mason who was also running for the RAF Benevolent Fund and completed the race in 2:11:22.

Great effort from both of you.

Angels 10k

The Angels 10k race started at the Woodpeackers Cricket Club, Ashleworth on Sunday 23rd September.  This race also forms part of the 2018 Gloucestershire AAA Road Race Series. The route includes undulating, quiet country lanes within the surrounding area.

First in for RSE was Mark Manley in 43:06.  The sunglasses must have been very useful Mark.

He was followed by;

Steve Phelps in 47:13

Sharon Smith in 47:57.  This gave Sharon first place in the LV65 category which also meant gold in the AAA Championships.

Sandie Wood in 58:19.  This gave Sandie a bronze place in the AAA Championships LV55 category.

Great effort from all running

Draycote Water 20 mile

Draycote Water is set in the heart of Warwickshire and is an ideal place for a run. The race is a gently undulating road race which includes 4 laps around the perimeter of the reservoir.

Representing RSE was Linda Edwards who completed the race in 3:27:30.  Well done Linda

Mentioned in Dispatches

There are many that I could mention in dispatches today.

Without saying they would include Sharon Smith for getting 1st in the Glos AAA LV65 category and Sandie Wood for getting bronze in the LV55 category during the Angels 10k race.  Great results from both of you.

But I would like to include all those who ran this weekend.  That is not only all who raced this weekend but also those that braved the wet conditions to get out there and complete training runs.

For those that waited for the sun before they went out or turned around when it started to rain you are not included.

Cirencester Park Run

Eleanor Taylor – 24:29

Richard Woodsell Taylor – 26:00

Suzanne Steel – 31:10

Halloween – Fancy dress efforts session and drinks

Halloween is back at Running Somewhere Else (Wednesday, 31st October). The RSE committee would like to invite all members to a fancy dress themed effort session, at the usual place and time, followed by drinks at the bar.

We kindly request a donation of £2/person, which will go towards our new charity, the ‘Cirencester-Signpost’. There will be a prize for the best outfit, which I’ve been reassured is NOT wine gums!

We will also be welcoming members from the Bourton Road Runners club for a one off session.
