RSE Club Report – A Long Run for a Long Weekend!

Pewsey Downs Around

Hosted by the Long Distance Walking Association, this event provides walkers and runners with a stunning via footpaths and bridleways with beautiful views across the Vale of Pewsey and Marlborough Downs. Entrants navigate themselves past many famous sites, including Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill and the Wansdyke, on the 25 mile trek.

A huge well done to Lesley Hinsley, who completed the course in the first of 2 ultra runs within a week. Lesley finished the course in a brilliant 8 hours.

Yearly event organised by LDWA, starting at Pewsey Scout hut, going via white horse, Avebury, Malborough downs and round to Pewsey. 3100 ft of elevation. Ran/walked with a friend for 1st 14 miles. [I was then] on my own for the next 13 miles where watch, including sat nav, ran out of battery. Met 'Mike' who was on his first ever ultra, but he had Sat Nav. We ran together helping each other the rest of the way.

Isle of Wight Ultra

Because 35 miles is not enough for some, Lesley Hinsley took on the Isle of Wight Ultra, a 53km (33 mile) ultra from Chale to Cowes. Around 2,000 participants took on the run across the Island’s stunning coastal path, which has full support and hospitality along the way.

Congratulations to Lesley who completed the course in 6hours 41 minutes!

[This was my] 1st Ultra on my own - running 53km halfway around the IOW. Starting from Chale along the coast at Tennyson Down, along the trails and coastal path via the Needles, Yarmouth, Newtown, finishing in Northwood at the County ground. Fantastically organised event with Prosecco and meal at the end. Beautiful scenic views, lots of hills and very muddy trails. Lovely event.

Beyond the Ultimate Highland Ultra

RSE’s Andy Sampson also completed a multi-day ultra this weekend, crossing over 125km – the Beyond the Ultimate Highland Ultra!

Congratulations to Sampo, and hopefully we will get an update from him when he’s recovered!
