RSE Club Report – Queens of Italian Ironman and Cotswold Way and PB Glory in Goodwood

Ironman Emilia-Romagna

Ironman courses are notoriously tough, crossing lengthy distances for a swim, bike ride and run. Taking place in ancient fishing village of Cervia, the Ironman Emilia-Romagna is based on the East Coast of Italy; the course includes a sea swim of 3800m (2.4m), a two lap bike course of 180km (112m) and a 4-lap run of 42.2km (26m). Entrants are treated to spectacular views and Italian history as they cross the course.

Taking part for RSE was Katie Tunstall, who was completing her first Ironman! The race was not without its dramas after it was delayed for 24 hours due to a huge storm that hit Italy the day before.

A massive congratulations to Katie, who finished in 15 hours 17 mins!

Goodwood Running Grand Prix

The Goodwood Motor Circuit takes place on Bedford Autodrome & Oulton Park, which makes for a flat and fast race. Runners had the options for 5k to marathon distances across the track, and were treated to a chequered flag finish. The course consists of laps around the track and is well supported along the way.

Running his first half marathon in 10 years was RSE’s Campbell McIlroy, who completed the course in 1:53:18, a massive 9 minute PB!

Well done Campbell on a very impressive personal best!

Queen of the Cotswolds

It was the return of RSE’s annual BBQ this week, and alongside the fantastic food provided by Somewhere else (and the numerous drinks) was a very special prize giving. It takes a lot of grit and determination to complete a race, and a lot of patience to complete a 10 year challenge – and that’s just what RSE’s Sharon Smith did, completing every leg of the Cotswold Way Relay in RSE’s club colours.

A huge well done to Sharon! We hope you enjoyed the (homemade) crown!
