Race Report – 06/10/2024

Race Results

Chester Marathon

Chester is the only marathon in the UK that spans across both England and Wales. The route takes in the beautiful surrounding landscapes and villages that both countries have to offer.

  • Jennifer Glass: 3:47:43

“Really cold and rainy while we were hanging around at the start but a good temperature for the rest of the race. Hilly at the start and then some big hills in the second half including a big hill at the end. Pretty tough course all in all but I was pleased with my time. Chester is a beautiful city and I enjoyed running in the countryside the route the marathon took us through.”

Cirencester Slog

The Cirencester Slog is a multi-terrain 10 mile race in Cirencester Park, taking in some of the less familiar trails the park has to offer. The race is run in support of SARA, an Inshore Lifeboat and Inland Search and Rescue organisation covering the River Severn, it’s estuary and the surrounding area.

  • James Ball: 1:09:49
  • Daniel Drayton: 1:26:27
  • Paul Beaumont: 1:30:13
  • Sharon Smith
  • Sara Juggins
  • Andrew Barrett

“Really enjoyed the run, through parts of the park I’d not seen before” – Dan

“Really enjoyed this run. A bit of mud but not too much; a few hilly bits but not too many; easy to get to; good atmosphere AND, we were clearly told at the beginning that the money they were making was going to charity. What’s not to like?!” – Paul

“Great trail run through Cirencester Park. Beautiful conditions. A few puddles and muddy patches to keep things interesting. Amazing finish from the horse statue down the hill to the finish above the Cecily Hill gates.” – James

Cardiff Half Marathon

Cardiff Half Marathon is one of the “SuperHalfs”, a global series of the world’s most prestigious half marathons. The fast and flat route attracts almost 30,000 runners to the capital city.

  • Wayne Hewitt: 1:31:55
  • Gemma Wright: 1:54:41
  • Tim Wainwright: 2:07:56
  • Paul Robertson

“A new course PB over two minutes quicker than last year, I’m well chuffed and good to be representing RSE in Wales” – Tim

Roundhay Half Marathon and 10k

Roundhay Park in Leeds is one of the biggest city parks in Europe, boasting 700 acres of parklands, lakes, woodland and gardens. Run Yorkshire hosted a Half Marathon, 10k and 5k options for runners.

Half Marathon

  • Linda Edwards: 2:13:00

10k

  • Liz Hulcup: 56:26

“As second claim runner with Bourton Roadrunners I attended the BRR club trip to Leeds. Starting with my 100th Parkrun on route at Long Eaton we attended the running festival the day after in Roundhay Park. I opted for the Half Marathon. The route was undulating with a steep climb on each of the 5 laps around the lake. The route was mainly trail with some parts technically difficult however the views were lovely. A great route for supporters and a nice cafe at the end.” – Linda

Hills and Puddles

Hi all. There were a few cancellations over the weekend, thanks to the weather, but we still had a great turnout at races and various Park Runs from club members, as you will see below….

Mark Garrett

Bourton Half Marathon

It may no longer officially be the “Hilly Half”, but none of the hills have gone away and it’s a challenging, but pretty, course.

The results count towards the County Road Race Championship races and there were also County medals for the race itself. Zoe, Elaine, Sharon and Steve were all awarded medals!

“Bourton half or ‘hilly’ half as it’s more commonly known. Seems like all the races lately have had hills in! This was my fourth race in 4 weeks and wasn’t sure what would happen as I haven’t trained for a half marathon lately. Turns out it went ok!! Over 22.5 minutes FASTER than last year’s attempt AND a seasons best for a HM this year! (Faster than Solihull and Goodwood). A lovely race with good organisation and fab support from Bourton road runners.”

Felicity Crotty

Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon

This Autumn Half Marathon is run in the Forest of Dean at the end of September. Using the same organization (but a different course) as the popular Spring event, this race follows a forest trails course with no road crossings. This course has some interesting hill challenges and offers a chance to experience the Forest with its late-summer leaf canopy.

Katy MILLER                02:17:58

Vicki MASON                02:19:19

Windor Half Marathon

Well done to Liz Farooq for completing the course.

The things some people put themselves through on a wet Sunday morning!

A 10 mile single lap of scenic Cotswold countryside through Stowell Park, the Coln Valley, and close to the famous Chedworth Roman Villa. It is a challenging multi-terrain race that uses a variety of undulating tracks, footpaths, fields, and features a river crossing. Having being voted one of the best trail races in Gloucestershire, 97% of entrants would do the race again (Runnersworld.co.uk).

Running Somewhere Else were out in force with lots of smiling faces before, during (particularly, the water), and after.  It’s a well organised race by Cirencester Athletics Club and goes through some fantastic countryside.  Many thanks to all the marshalls and supporters but especially the ones from  RSE!  Memorable moments include the rain before, the mud, the hills, the river and especially a member of RSE carrying on running without her shoe.  In fact she did so well perhaps more of us should try it!

Run for nature at Chester Zoo 10k

A 10k route takes you through the zoo and around some of the surrounding countryside and includes entry to the zoo after the race is complete.

Felicity Crotty was there

I ran this with my cousin Jo who raised £65 for save the rhino as it was world rhino day today AND overall runners raised £60,000 for Chester zoo. We were worried it was going to be stormy but it was quite dry in the end and finished 10 seconds faster than last week’s race!

Race Time: 00:58:41

A great cause to run for!

Lovely weekend for it!

Cotswold Water Park 10K   14/09/24

Held at Cleveland Lakes, Ashton Keynes, this local event offers runners the chance to run through both public and private areas of the Cleveland Lakes Nature Reserve, areas not normally open to the public. It’s a fundraising event in aid of the Cotswold Lakes Trust, a charity dedicated to the conservation and enhancement of the Cotswold Water Park for the benefit of wildlife and people.

  • Samantha Ward   1:08:26
  • Melanie Dodd   1:11:11
  • Sylvia Warman   1:13:43

“I’d done this one a couple of years ago and decided it would be a good first race after getting back to running again. It was a bit harder than I’d expected but it was a beautiful course and the cakes were excellent!” – Sylvia Warman

“Nice flat race around the nature reserve lake. It was a hot day. I was aiming for under 1 hour 10mins. My watch time was 1 hour 10mins 53 seconds.” – Mel Dodd

Coln Valley Trail Runs  14/09/24

Set along the beautiful Coln River valley between Coln St Aldwyns and Bibury, this event followed scenic riverside trails and was held in aid of Hatherop Primary School’s Big Build Project.  On offer were a 5 or 10km trail run, plus a fun sounding 2km steeplechase option for all ages – a cross-country route around grassy fields, featuring hay bale hurdles & 2 crossings of the “dip of doom”!  RSE were well represented though we’ve yet to have any feedback re what the dip of doom involved…

Angels 10K  15/09/24

Hosted by the Angels Running Club, the only affiliated all-female running club in Gloucester, this race forms part of the Gloucestershire AAA Road Race Series so sure to be popular with club and county runners alike.  Billed as an exciting and undulating on-road course, the route offers great view of the Cotswolds, the Malvern Hills and River Severn.  There was a great turnout from RSE, with some impressive category placings and some of our runners completing their first 10k race – well done all!

“Another AAA with another big hill, but much more enjoyable than last week! My fastest 10k for 3 years too and under the hour. Good to see all the team RSE out and great to see many of this years beginners taking it on! Nice medal and nice cake too.” – Felicity Crotty

“This was my first 10k for many years, after returning to running. I absolutely loved it, running up those hills! Such a great atmosphere, fabulous marshals and great support from everyone at RSE.” – Rachel Weaver
