This was the weekend of the last Club Championship race of the year – the AVR half marathon. Congratulations to all those who took part in it . There was also an impressive sounding marathon course (+ performance!) and a challenging trail run in the Lake District
AVR Half Marathon
The AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon is now in its 13th year and is organised by Avon Valley Runners. This is a chip timed road race over a certified course starting in Edington and taking in the beautiful villages of Steeple Ashton and Great Hinton. This event is run in support of the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity. And it’s an RSE Championship Race.

The course is very challenging and undulating so really pleased to get a PB and also a 10k PB on the course!!!

Not done much racing since earlier in the year so very happy with result today, getting first in age category. Perfect weather for race and pretty route on country lanes, well marshalled and organised. I had been warned that the route was a touch on the hilly side and it certainly was !

I really enjoyed that today, after considering bailing yesterday as the weather was dreadful I’m pleased I ran. Beautiful sunshine and a lovely course. It was definitely undulating, bit of a beastly hill at 8 miles, but plenty of downhills to make up for it. Lovely atmosphere and great marshals too. Pleased to run strong and not drop off too badly at the end. Well done to my fellow RSE runners who also put in some strong performances, especially Jade picking up a PB (for her 10km too!)

Classed as undulating, it was a hard half with a lot of hills. The sun even came out and conditions turned out perfect, we even had a helicopter fly-past from the sponsor ‘Wiltshire air ambulance’
Very pleased to finish with my 2nd fastest half time, and complete a long season, and injury free.
Congrats as always to the RSE team for some great running.
To round it off, I even won a prize in the random draw ‘happy days’

San Sebastian Marathon
The San Sebastian Marathon is the second oldest marathon in Spain and one of the most popular and prestigious in Europe. The race is completely urban, flat and at sea level. The Marathon starts from the privileged situation of Hernani Street, in the heart of the city close to the City Hall and the Alderdi Eder gardens, and finishes in the emblematic Boulevard. At the end of the third lap, the information says “you will enjoy a fantastic straight of more than a kilometre completely flat to the finish line, always surrounded by the warmth of local public”.

Amazing event nice flat course beautiful scenery next to the beach and very flat, which meant even I could get a good time, well worth a visit for the food alone.

Kendal Trail Run
The Kendal Trail Run has become an integral part of the Kendal Mountain Festival, and is organised on a not-for-profit basis to support the amazing volunteer work of the Kendal Mountain Rescue Team. You can join hundreds of festival goers in this rip-roaring trail run, visiting scenic landmarks and fells used by the local running community. The route is pure trail running, strewn with natural obstacles (no arbitrary mud-baths or other obstacles required), just lots of great ascents, green vistas, some hard-packed and grassy trails and a great town centre finish. (Sorry if this is bit long, but I thought it sounded great).

We came to the lake district for the Kendal Mountain Festival and I was excited to see that they put on a 10k trail run. Within 200m the road ramped up to 20% and we kept going up for the next 6km! The trails were muddy, slippery and rocky and sadly we were running in the cloud so no chance to see any views, but I loved everything about it. I didn’t even mind that it ended up being 12k! This was my first race back since injury and I got round with no pain. Hooray!
