South Downs Way 100

The SDW100 is a 100 mile race taking in the entire South Downs Way National Trail, boasting stunning rolling hills, ancient forts, picturesque villages and expansive views across Southern England. The course travels along the chalk ridgeway, starting just outside of Winchester and heading east until the trail ends in Eastbourne. Beginning at 6am on Saturday, the course has a 30 hour cut off. Henry Church finished this incredible challenge in 21hours 36minutes, 47th out of over 350 starters. Inspirational, Henry!

Lacock Road Race

Featuring a 1k family fun run, 5k, 10k and half marathon this is a fully closed road event taking in the tranquil and picturesque lanes of the Wiltshire Countryside and through the historic streets of Lacock itself. The race starts on the village green opposite the Abbey, heading out of town and over some lovely stone bridges over the river Avon. It’s a 1 lap course for the 5km, 2 laps for the 10km and 3 laps for the Half Marathon.

Congratulations to Andy Masser and Amanda Haines who took part in the 10k finishing in 46:18 and 1:05:00. respectively. This was only Amanda’s second 10k and achieved a new PB!  Also Libby Saunders, who raced for the first time, completed the 5k and did so in very respectable 31:50. What a great achievement, Libby. Fantastic work all of you!

Cotswold 113

The Cotswold 113 is a middle distance triathlon set in the heart of the picturesque Cotswolds. The Swim is a one lap 1.9km in lake 32 based in the centre of the Ashton Keynes water park. The bike section leaves the water park and heads out for a flat and fast 56 miles, followed by the 13.1 mile run that takes in lake side paths as well as local village routes before finishing back close to the lakeside transition in the finishers area. RSEs very own Andy Sampson completed the event in 5:34:48 (Swim 41:19, Bike 2:47:46, Run 2:01:13) – a truly fantastic effort Andy, well done!

Endure24

Endure24 mixes serious ultra-running with a 24 hour team relay race; the five mile woodland and trail routes are incredibly scenic and end with a loop around the event race village. Well done to Linda Edwards who took part in this ’24 hour running party in the woods’ with Bourton Roadrunners, recording 20miles herself and helping them achieve 151miles as a team!

Fairford 10k

An amazing time was had by all at the Fairford 10k, once again hosted by Running Somewhere Else.  This very popular race brought over 400 runners to the lovely town of Fairford, where the competitors were taken on a undulating course in very warm conditions around the stunning countryside of the area.

Westonbirt 10k: Run for the Trees

Over 900 runners took part in this year’s Run for the Trees organised by the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum with a route that takes you passed champion trees and some of the rarest species in the world. Unfortunately, a change in how numbers were collected resulted in a delayed start and the slightly longer than 10k route put an end to beating any PBs on Wednesday evening; but RSE members still put in some fabulous runs.

First home for the club was Cheri Edwards in 52:20, Jo Woods 53:53, Lindsay Gregory 54:30; Richard Marshall 57:33; Vicki Mason 58:18; Amanda Haines 1:09:43 and Amy Breakspear 1:17:19. Well done everyone!

Special mention to Amanda Haines who not only raced for RSE for the first time, but in doing so completed her furthest ever run after enrolling on the beginners course. Fantastic work, Amanda!

Bermuda Day Half Marathon

Friday saw the Bermuda Day Half Marathon take place, which runs from Somerset to Hamilton on the beautiful island of Bermuda. Berkeley 10k

There was a good turnout of RSE members taking part in a very warm Berkeley 10k on Monday 14th which is a flat, PB potential, course run on quiet country lanes around rural Berkeley. Tom Cooper ran an impressive 38:42, a new PB, to finish first for the club. Steve Phelps was next across the line in 47:13, followed by Martin Pitts in 48:58. Racing for the first time since becoming a dad was Graham Aitchison who finished in 51:11, closely followed by RSEs first lady Kirsty Pitts in a seasons best 51:27. Emma Hine took on the 10k for the first time and did so in a fantastic 55:23 (PB). Lovely Linda Edwards also ran for her 1st claim club, Bourton Road Runners, and finished in 56:20. Great work team.

Northleach 10k

Kate Potter and Jenny Hoffmann took part in this beautiful 10k in the North Cotswold countryside featuring fields of buttercups and rolling hills. They were greeted by great marshalls and plenty of water to drink and douse themselves with on a very warm Sunday morning. The race is in aid of Walking with the Wounded charity. Well done ladies for completing the race in 1:12:00 (awaiting official time).

Royal Berkshire 10k

Sunday saw the Green Park Royal Berkshire 10K start and finish by the lake in Green Park, Reading. The course is a one lap rural route around Pingewood lakes. It is flat and on good surfaces with very few twists and turns making it a fast route. Charlie Austin completed this in a new PB of 1:15:10. Well done, Charlie.

Race for Life

Elspeth Murano completed the Swindon Race for Life 5k on Sunday morning. The route, which meanders around Lydiard Park, taking in views of the house and lake, is two laps and is primarily on pathways with two short sections on mowed grass. The route has a section through the woods which includes a short sharp incline. Great work Elspeth for such a worthwhile cause.

Also raising valuable funds for beating Cancer was Kay Thompson who completed the Race for Life Pretty Muddy again in Lydiard Park, Swindon. This is a brilliant 5k muddy obstacle course which includes scrambling over the A-frame and crawling through the mud pit. Well done, Kay!

Tough Mudder

In the shadow of the historic Belvoir Castle, 16,000 acres of picturesque countryside was transformed into a mud-lover’s playground on Saturday. Taking on the 10 miles and 20+ obstacles in the Midlands were RSEs very own gladiators Gareth Roberts and Julia MacFarlane. Awesome work guys!

Rough Runner

Helen Berry and friends took on Rough Runner in Oxfordshire also on Saturday which includes a variety of inflatable obstacles and the ‘Travelator’! Well done, Helen!
