RSE Club Report – Quiet Villages and Picturesque Forests!

AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon

This small, friendly race is popular amongst RSE runners for the fantastic support by locals and, most importantly, cakes at the end. The race takes place on country lanes around Edington, Steeple Ashton and Great Hinton, and is tipped as undulating (although some may argue that the incline at Mile 9 qualifies it for hilly!). This year, the race was included in the RSE club championship, attracting a brilliant number of club members!

Last half marathon of the year and managed a new PB! 🤩 despite being undulating (aka very hilly!!) A lovely scenic course in unexpected sunshine plus great support from Team RSE 😎 Official chip time – 1.55.09 😆

Elliot Gardiner

My first club race of the year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fantastic to be running surrounded by the team colours. Well organised event, friendly marshalls and pretty route too.

Nadine Brown

I really loved today, it was definitely a challenging course with those pesky hills and in particular mile 8s never ending one! But a beautiful route and I’m chuffed with an over 5 min PB from it!!

Forest of Dean Runner 10k

Taking place in the heart of the Forest of Dean, this undulating 10k race offers the chance for runners to take in the beautiful surroundings and maybe catch a glimpse of the wildlife in the forest. Runners are treated to a picturesque finish by the lake.

Running for RSE was Anne Gardiner, who completed the course in a brilliant time of 57:37!

It was really cold but I loved it!

Eynsham 10k

This 2 lap 10k race takes place around the village of Eynsham, Oxfordshire and is part of the Oxfordshire Race Series. The course is tipped as fast and flat, making it a popular one amongst runners.

Liz Hulcup ran for RSE, completing the course in a fantastic time of 50:27 and coming 2nd in the LV65 category! 🥳

It’s a flat, good PB course, but a very slight incline by the A40 and if it’s windy you are running head on into it, but fairly calm this morning. It’s usually a sell out as it’s part of the Oxon County Championship race series.

Hosted by Malvern Buzzards Running Club, the Red Buzzard 20k takes on the beautiful countryside around Herefordshire and Worcestershire, following public trails and bridleways.

  • Carol Sworn – 2:26:42
  • Andy Sworn – 2:26:47

Well organised, very friendly marshals and a fabulous route made it a very enjoyable day out. Will definitely be in our 2022 race diary.

Safety Notice

A Message from Caroline Terry, Club Welfare Officer:

Firstly, thank you to club members who are wearing hi-visual running gear including body or head torches on club nights. (any time you run in the dark!)

Please can I remind you that light coloured tops and jackets are not so good at reflecting light. So please get yourself kitted out with something that helps you see where you are going and others can see you. (the pavements & roads are not so smooth… )

It is so important to run safely. It also sends a message to the general public and upholds our good reputation of being respectful to others who use the pavements and roads. (see RSE constitution).

Thank you and keep safe.

If you would like a run or race included in the club report, don’t forget to message Ellie Taylor by 5pm Sunday each week 🙂
