RSE Club Report – Charities, Championships and Ultra Challenges

Salcey Forest 6 Hour Challenge

It takes a certain kind of person to enter a 6 hour run for ‘training’, but that’s just what club member Mark Manley did this week, completing 40 miles at the Salcey Forest 6 hour challenge! The event consists of 5k laps through Salcey forest near Northampton, the trail course taking in the beautiful countryside and woodland. Mark ran a total of 12 laps, completing the 40 miles in 6 hours 40 minutes! Fantastic work, Mark!

RSE Club Championship 2021

Chippenham Half Marathon, 2019

The Club Championship has been running in RSE since its foundation, and many club members now have some very shiny trophies in their homes (and some more than 1!). The championship is open to all members, and is an opportunity to aim for personal bests with the support of other club members. It is a great way to run as a club and paint the events yellow, red and black! And have some fun while we’re at it.

There is, of course, the chance to enter the Overall Championship, in which an accumulation of points across different events will lead to an overall winner in Men’s, Women’s and VET categories. In each race, the front runner of each category earns 10 points, second receives 9 points, etc. If you enter and finish one of the runs, you will automatically receive 1 point, so the more races you enter, the more points you receive. To be Overall Champion, you need to enter a minimum of 7 races.

This year, there have been some changes to the format of RSE’s championship, due to the government restrictions.

Club Captain, Elaine Chapman, explains more:

The club championship is important for many reasons. It is an opportunity to be part of something bigger. When you are out there racing in your RSE vest, you are not on your own, you have your friends out with you. I love being at the start of a club race, having those nervous chats with my fellow RSE runners on the start line.

As a club we are proud of how well we support each other, and this support really shines during club races.

Club races give us the chance to put everything we have learned at club training sessions into practice too. Everyone has their own personal targets, we have a wide range of races so people have the chance to achieve their targets, be it run non stop for a 5km, or get a good for age marathon place.

Monday Night Running

Following a highly successful return to running on Mondays, we are aware many of our groups are regularly fully booked. The coaching team have been working hard on capacity for our Monday night run groups and, with this in mind, from Monday 17th May we will be increasing our group size from a maximum of 6 to 8 runners. This small increase is well within the current Covid Secure guidance issued by England Athletics and will hopefully enable everyone to get a slot within the pace group they want.
We have also reviewed our routes to introduce some of our more popular summer routes. These routes will be added to the routes page on RunTogether over the next week or so, for you to familiarise yourself with them before they come into active service from May 17th.
Details for May & June’s groups, routes & leaders are below and bookings will be available on RunTogether from 08.00 on Monday 3rd May.
