RSE Racing Report – 17 June 2018

Summer Sizzler 10k

RSE were out in force at the Cirencester Park Summer Sizzler 10k event on Wednesday evening organised by Cirencester Athletics. The course consists of 2 laps and goes through scenic parkland exclusively within the estate of Cirencester Park. This race is part of the RSE Championship and every RSE member ran like true champions with a number of PBs and SBs being recorded.

First home for the club (and just missing out on a top 10 finish by 5 seconds) was Tom Cooper putting last weeks disappointment to bed. Teresa Hazelwood confirmed she is certainly getting back to her best by finishing as first female for the club. Sharon Smith finished first in the LV65s, Sarah Page 2nd in LV55s and Teresa Hazelwood 3rd in LSEN. There were plenty of big personal bests to celebrate also – well done Martin Sheriff (1 min off), Rosie Oates, Linzi Gregory (2 mins off), Helen Berry (7 mins off), Sarah Page (4 mins off), Emma Hine, Cathy Steer (8 mins off), Vanessa Poole (5 mins off) and Lisa Evans (2 mins off). Great to see Lisa Courtney and Tony Wilkins in the RSE Vests for the first time too! Congratulations to all 34 of you.

Well done to the Mini RSEs too (Ellena Daniels, Toby Wood, Rory Brown & Isobel Daniels) who completed in the 3k Fun Run. Special congratulations to Ellena as this was her furthest run!

Hope24

Hope24 is a special event for many reasons. Located in Plympton on a private estate, the event provides a friendly atmosphere for runners to get together and challenge themselves to achieve their own targets. Based on a 5-mile trail course in this stunning estate, the event is open to solo runners or teams of 2-8, over a 24 hour period. This year saw Hope24 celebrate their 5th birthday, with RSE being proud to be involved since the start!

8 RSE members camped and raced through the 24 hours. Well done Richard Marshall, Elaine Chapman, Ben Chapman, Nadine Brown, Amelia Culshaw, Nick (Animal) Duncan, Ellie Taylor and Rich Taylor who achieved an outstanding 31 laps, a total of 155 miles in 24:36:29 and finishing in a hugely impressive 4th place overall.

Sandie Wood also joined the festival fun supporting the relay team and completing a single lap in Hope5 in 53:24

 

Mini RSE runners Daniel and Matthew Chapman ran in Hope2.4 and finished in a very impressive 18:39 and 22:46 respectively.

 

Not satisfied in running the 24 hour relay race, some of the crazy gang also chose to squeeze in a cheeky Plymvalley park run in the morning! (See results below).

Well done also to Elaine & Ban Chapman who have really made RSE a part of the fixtures and fittings of this glorious event by attending every year since its inauguration.

Humphs Hilly Half

The Bourton Hilly Half is a challenging yet picturesque race following a single loop, starting and finishing in Bourton-on-the-Water. A notable scenic route through the pretty villages of Clapton, Sherborne, Windrush, Great Barrington and Great Rissington, it is a firm favorite with many RSE members.

Congratulations to Cheri and Linzi who ran their first half marathon and achieved impressive PB’s on this challenging course with some excellent RSE performances alround in a field of 117 finishers

Fist home for RSE was Mark Manley in 1:36:59 closely followed by John Buck (2nd in his age category) in 1:38:15. For the ladies, Cheri Edwards (3rd Senior Lady) was first home in 1:54:22 (PB) followed by Linzi Gregory in 1:57:22 (PB).

Ridgeway Revenge

The Ridgeway Revenge Half Marathon, takes on the challenge of beautiful undulating miles set along Britain’s oldest path.  Race or run part of the historical ancient trail walked by soldiers and herdsman 5000 years ago.  Experience the mystical Alfred’s Castle and classical Ashdown House set within the beautiful countryside of the Wiltshire Downs. A trail run not to missed.

With a total of 146 finishers, first home for RSE in 6th place overall and 3rd in his age category was Ollie Hazel in 1:38:49 followed by Teresa Hazelwood in 2:02:05.

Cheltenham Challenge

The Challenge is a multi-terrain event offering 5K, 10K and Half Marathon distances. All races are open to runners and walkers and isstaged as a fundraising event operated by Cheltenham-based charity Caring for Communities and People.

Andy Masser finished the half marathon in a very respectable 1:52:34 followed by Alice Mason in 2:41:22.

Meanwhile in the 10K, Steve Phelps was first home in 52.32 followed by Kay Thompson in 1:20:32.

And a well dome to Rosie who supported her Mum around the 5k event.

Parkrun

Swindon: Martyn Joyce 20:47.
