WE HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GOOD TIME AT THE CLUBS CHRISTMAS PARTY AND AWARDS EVENING ON SATURDAY NIGHT. SPECIAL THANKS TO PHILIPPA AND THE SOMEWHERE ELSE STAFF WHO MADE IT SUCH A GREAT NIGHT. THE FOOD WAS FANATASTIC. ALSO WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO COLLECTED AWARDS ON SATURDAY NIGHT. SPECIAL THANKS TO JACKI DAY AND DEB BARRY FOR THE ORGANISATION.
REPORT FOR THIS WEEKS STANDARD:
RSE ANNUAL AWARDS EVENING
More than sixty people met up at Somewhere Else for the clubs annual award giving.
Deb Barry collected the trophy for first in the ladies championship with Ruth Herbert finishing 1 point behind collecting second and Jo Wood third. Club captain Mark Garrett picked up first for the men, with Simon Bowers second and John Buck third.
The trophy for most improved runner for the year was a difficult one for the Committee to chose as so many could have deserved this award including Jacki Day and Catrin Fotherby but it came down to two runners who could not be separated so two trophys were awarded to Simon Bowers for achieving four PB's in 10k races during the year and Jenny Hoffman for considerably improving both her 10k and Half marathon times. Runners runner which was voted for by
RSE members was awarded to Tracey Pitts. Supporter of the year was handed to Mari Fotherby who due to injury was unable to run in many races this year but always turned up to cheer everyone home.

WIMBLEBALL HALF IRONMAN
June 19, 2011
WELL DONE TO KIM WITHYCOMBE AND ANDY SAMPSON FOR COMPLETING THE WIMBLEBALL HALF IRONMAN. WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU !
REPORT AS FOLLOWS:
Kim Withycombe and Andy Sampson were up at the crack of dawn last weekend for the 6am start in the Wimbleball Half Ironman.
The race began with a 1.2 mile distance deep water mass swim which combined with the fog on the lake made it difficult to make a good start.
On leaving the icy cold water they had to run 400 metres uphill for the transition.
The 56 mile bike route took them into Exmoor where they had to tackle the very steep hills and ride into the rain.
As if this wasnt enough they then had to run the 13.1 mile Half Marathon distance.
Congratulations to Kim who finished the course in 6 hours,14 minutes and 8 seconds to achieve 6th overall in her age group.
Andy having completed his first ever Half Ironman did well to finish in 7 hours, 11 minutes and 43 seconds

Bugatti Beer Race
August 5, 2010
Hi Runners
Missed training and had a crack at the Bugatti Beer Race tonight on a tough but enjoyable course. I guess the race gets it's name from the famous car and museum in the nearby village of Prescott. The race starts a short jog from the Bugatti Inn in the village of Gretton (near Winchcombe). The first 3K is downhill and pretty fast, so its easy to get carried away. As always what goes down has to come back up and the last 5K is pretty tough. Despite this the course is pretty scenic and you get a beer, burger and t-shirt at the finish, can't be bad.
Given this was my first road race for 14 months I was pretty pleased with my (garmin) time of 44:10, all part of the master plan (lol). Sad to say I was the lone RSE runner amongst a sea of Almost Athletes and many others. Maybe see you at Standish a week Sunday?

First to cross the line for the club was Jake Hopegood who finished in 36:12, closely followed by and first home for the ladies was Kim Withycombe in 36:59.It was the heat and the very steep hill at the end that put paid to many achieving a PB on last years times although some came close, well done to Debbie Barry who did when she finished in 38:21.
Other times: Dave Whitlow:37:16,Tom Johnson:37:59,Huw Parry:38:10,Simon Townsend:38:53,Sam Hoffman:40:06,
