RSE Racing Report – 11th March 2018

MK Festival of Running 10k

The Milton Keynes festival consists of a family friendly or super-swift 5k event, classic 10k distance race, the ever popular half marathon distance race and a 20 miler for those who like to go long. Well done Pete Whitmore who took part in the 10k on Sunday finishing in 1:24:29 (awaiting official time). Well done Pete!

Minchinhampton 10k

This run is a pre-Easter road race, held on quiet country lanes in and around the beautiful Cotswold town of Minchinhampton. It contains one hill, a few undulations and starts on Minchinhampton common. Steve Phelps ran this 10k on Sunday finishing in 49:55, and although the hill was rather tough he confessed the Creme Egg reward at the end made it worthwhile! Great result Steve!

parkrun

Cirencester: Martyn Joyce 22:54; Sarah Reynolds 28:02; Ruth Herbert 31:52; Caroline Coates 36:55 and Phil Scoble 1:08:15 (tail-walker).

A big well done to all racers, runners and volunteers this weekend!

RSE Racing Report – 25th February 2018

Back to Black 10k – Wild Night Run Series

175 people took part in the Back to Black 10k on Saturday evening which is the last of 4 races in the Wild Night Run series. The race starts at Leigh Wood, a popular spot for night running. Not content with the 10k, Richard Marshall added on an extra mile (route markers are much harder to see in the dark!) finishing in 1:25:27. Well done Richard.

SMaRTT Smasher 10k

A fantastic result from Martyn Joyce at the SMaRTT Smasher 10k in Calne on Sunday. He finished 5th overall and picked up the prize for 1st MV40. He believes it was an unexpected result, but we at RSE know how hard he trains and it was fully deserved.

Bourton 10k

On a beautiful, crisp Sunday morning 10 RSE members ran in the Bourton 10k. A popular fast and flat course has definite PB potential and many members were able to take advantage of this. First home for the club was Ben Chapman who, after reviewing the photos, seemed to run the whole 6.2miles with a wonderful ear-to-ear smile upon his face! Fantastic work Ben 🙂 Special mention to Vicki Mason who took 3 mins off her previous PB and Linzi Gregory who ran for the first time in RSE colours. Thank you also to the fabulous support crew.

Ben Chapman 45:03; Nadine Brown 47:09 (PB); Ted Pitts 48:11; David Whitlow 48:22; Cheri Edwards 50:07 (PB); Wayne Edgington 52:24; Janet Daniels 53:54 (PB); Vicki Mason 54:02 (PB); Linzi Gregory 54:07 (PB) and Laura Butler 1:07:42. Excellent running everyone.

Seville Marathon

Seville Marathon boasts that it’s not only a fast course but it’s also one of the most beautiful circuits in the world, crossing the city centre and the main monuments of the ancient town. RSE Zoe Hammett took full advantage and finished in 4:04 – awesome work Zoe!

Gloucestershire AAA Cross Country: Pitville 6.4k

Sharon Smith finished 1st in her age category in this highly competitive championship on Saturday 17th February in a time of 35:09 and with a new personal best. Great work Sharon!

Castle Combe ‘Chilly’ 10k

The Chilly 10k provides a flat and smooth running surface over multiple laps on the famous Castle Combe race circuit. 605 runners finished the race including four RSE members on Sunday; all taking advantage of the flat course. Another weekend of racing for Jack Pitcher saw him earn a PB to reward his hard work in an impressive time of 39:34 and Martyn Joyce was, rightly, pleased with his race finishing in 41:24. Emily Jefferies finished in 45:46 and Steve Phelps also gained a great PB in a time of 47:00. Super work all!

parkruns

A special mention to RSE member Jon Collins who acted as Run Director for the first time this weekend and saw an impressive 211 runners take part in the 3rd Cirencester parkrun. Remember parkrun only happens because of the time and dedication of volunteers. If you or your friends / family are able to help please get in touch by sending an email to cirencesterhelpers@parkrun.com. Thank you.
