The route follows parts of the famous Cotswold Way and includes hills, woodland trails with a bit of road, along the scenic Cotswold escarpment. Not showing any signs of tired legs, Teresa Hazlewood came in first for the club in 1:28:05 followed by Ellie Taylor in1:29:39; both having raced at Bugatti on Wednesday. Cheri Edwards finished just behind in an impressive 1:30:22 (awaiting official times). Fantastic running all!

This was a challenging 750m open water swim (whereby both brave ladies competed without wetsuits!) followed by 4.6km run around lake 32. Fantastic work ladies!

Linda Edwards (and friend Susan) ran the long distance Birmingham Canal route on Saturday organised by the Long Distance Walking Association. They ran 23 of the 26.2 miles and, although not a race, provided excellent refreshments on this organised run. Good work ladies!

RUNNING SOMEWHERE ELSE PRESENTS BIGGEST CHARITY CHEQUE YET!

RUNNING SOMEWHERE ELSE PRESENTS BIGGEST CHARITY

CHEQUE YET!

(Picture shows members of RSE and The Churn Project CEO Fran Embleton-Smith celebrating having raised £2,400 for the charity)

Running Somewhere Else running club have raised £2,400 for local charity The Churn Project after various events over the past 12 months.

The money was raised through a number of fundraisers as well as the Fairford 10K race in June, which saw the event selling out at 500 participants – the most successful to date. Special thanks were given to IHS Markit who were the events principal sponsor contributing generously to the clubs chosen charity, the Churn Project, which provides support to a range of vulnerable and marginalised people across the local community.

Other fundraisers included a Quiz Night, Christmas Raffle and sponsorship organised by various RSE members for races they ran over the year.

The Club handed over a cheque for £2,400 to Fran Embleton-Smith, the charity’s CEO, at The White Heart in Ashton Keynes following an ‘Away Day’ run organised by one of the clubs members which took in some of the beautiful Thames Path and Cotswold Water Park on July 23.

The club chose the Churn Project as its chosen charity for 2017-18 after a vote of club members.

Running Somewhere Else Chair David Whitlow said: “To be able to help support a local charity where easily accessible support can make such a huge difference to people’s lives really resonated with our club members this year. The diverse range of activities and benefits they can bring to people in our local community makes us all realise that our fund raising efforts, no matter how small, can help many people in many ways.”

“We are really proud of the amount we have raised this year and this is testament to our members belief and support of this fantastic local charity.”

Fran Embleton-Smith, the Churn Project CEO, said: “We are so delighted to receive such wonderful support from the club.  As a local charity, we are very dependent on the goodwill of local people and it’s been inspiring to be associated with such a friendly, motivated, energetic group of people!”

The club is now in the process of selecting its charity for the coming year but fundraising activities have already begun!

RSE Racing Report – 5th August 2018

Cotswold 24 Hour Race

The Cotswold 24 Hour Race is a 24 hour individual or team relay race held in the beautiful Bathurst Estate, Cirencester. The race is run over a 9km mixed terrain course including forest trails and open tarmac paths. RSE’s Dave Daniels was among 217 other solo runners who took part in a very hot and testing 24 hours. Under the watchful eye of a very supportive wife, Dave completed 14 laps within the 24 hours, totaling a mighty impressive 78miles! Well done Dave, such an incredible achievement and very well deserved. Congratulations!

Mendip Marauder 30

Starting at the Market Town of Wells this 30 mile ultra took Ollie Hazel through a real smorgasbord of Somerset scenery finishing at Uphill, just outside Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday. With nearly 1,500 meters of accent this is certainly not a flat route and provided a challenge, but with rolling hillside, pretty woodland, quarries and atmospheric villages I am sure he was often too busy enjoying the views to think too hard about how tired he was! Well done to Ollie who completed the event in 5:24:44 (awaiting official time).

Secret Gin Run

Saturday also saw Charlie Austin & Edith Putt take part in this 10km running tour through London; stopping at places that are key to London’s thirsty history and playing games along the route. The route finished with all runners enjoying a well-deserved gin and tonic or gin cocktail! Well done ladies, it looked a lot of fun!

Forest of Dean Trail Half

New for 2018 this trail event was ran on firetrack gravel trails starting and finishing in the grounds of the Famous Speech House Hotel. Sharon Smith completed a ‘very hot’ half on Sunday in 1:54:00, 1st LV60 – great work Sharon!
