Club Championship 2017 – Round 5 & 6

Dear all,

Unfortunately I did not get round to posting the results following round 5 of the club championship till now, so have combined them into the update for round 6. Hopefully it has kept you in suspense, or left you to do the mathematics of where you are! So without further ado:

Sunday 7th May saw the Forest of Dean 10k, which was a race along the fire track and trails in the woodland of the Forest of Dean and was the fifth race of the 2017 club championship. This was a new race to the championship, and saw 5 ladies and 3 men from the club race for the championship points. Remember to qualify for club championship points you must be wearing the official club running vest, otherwise your effort will not count.

Saturday 17th June was the Humph’s Hilly Half marathon, which was the 6th race in the 2017 club championship. The race was a single loop around the picturesque villages near Bourton-on-the-Water, and as the name suggests includes a few “gradients”, this year made more fun by the sweltering temperatures. This year saw 4 ladies and 5 men take on the challenge and compete for the championship points. Remember to qualify for club championship points you must be wearing the official club running vest, otherwise your effort will not count.

So after rounds 5 and 6 of the championship, who is heading up the leader board? Have there been any changes?… well, let’s find out… the top five are:

Ladies Championship:
1) Nadine Brown (50 points)
2) Elaine Chapman (47 points)
3) Amelia Culshaw (30 points)
4) JOINT: Kirsty Pitts & Teresa Hazelwood (15 points)

Men’s championship:
1) Mark Manley (47 points)
2) Dave Witnall (34 points)
3) Jonathan Lewis (28 points)
4) Matt Lambourne (19 points)
5) Oliver Hazel (18 points)

The next club championship race is the Frampton 10k, on Monday 3rd July. The race is a flat course on the roads and lanes around the picturesque village of Frampton-upon-Severn. Good luck to all of those who have entered.

And finally, this will be the last update from me as your Captain. It has been a pleasure to run with you all, and I wish you all the best of luck in your varied endeavours. I wish my successor the very best in the position. Therefore it remains for me to say, for the last time…

Happy running!

Club Championship 2017 – Round 4

Dear all,

Sunday 19th March saw the Gloucester 20 road race, which was the fourth race of the 2017 club championship. The race is a three lap race around the “undulating” roads and lanes near Quedgley, just to the South of Gloucester. The Gloucester 20 is a great race to enter if you are preparing for a spring marathon, so bear that in mind for next year! This year there were 3 runners from the club, all of whom were ladies!

Remember to qualify for club championship points you must be wearing the official club running vest, otherwise your effort will not count.

So following the 4 races so far the top three places in club championships now look like this:

Ladies Championship:
1) Elaine Chapman (38 points)
2) Nadine Brown (33 points)
3) Amelia Culshaw (20 points)

Men’s championship:
1) Mark Manley (28 points)
2) Dave Witnall (25 points)
3) Jonathan Lewis (21 points)

The next club championship race is the Forest of Dean 10k, on the 7th May which is a scenic run along the fire tracks and trails in the woodlands of the Forest of Dean. Good luck to all of those who have entered.

Happy running!

Graham
