RSE Club Report – 10-100k!

Langley 10k

This fast 10k is the second in the lightening bolt services held in Langley Burrell, Chippenham. The race features only 14m of elevation, making it perfect for runners seeking a PB, and the event website writes that it “promises to be one of the fastest 10k races in the UK.”

Running for RSE was Mark Garrett and Alan Powderhill, who both ran brilliant times!

  • Mark Garrett – 43:53
  • Alan Powderhill – 49:28 – New PB!

A nice, flat course and definitely worth doing if up for a PB attempt. There are 2 more races there this summer.

Race to the Stones 100k

The Race to the Stones 100k is an incredible ultra challenge with breathtaking scenery and a touch of history to keep runners occupied on route. The course takes runners from the Uffington White Horse to Liddington Castle, and then finishing at Avebury Stone Circle.

What better way to celebrate a 60th birthday than to run 60 miles! A huge congratulations to Lesley Hinsley for completing the challenge for her birthday and for charity, and to Mark Manley for supporting in such a fantastic run!

Mark and Lesley finished in a brilliant time of 14 and a half hours, and Lesley came first in the LV60 category!

For my big birthday this year I talked to Mark about doing a 60 mile race. Mark came up with the 100k ‘Race to the Stones’ which was yesterday 9th July to celebrate my 60th year.
I also wanted to raise money for our Café charity Teenage Cancer Trust.
Mark has coached me, helped, encouraged, guided and pushed me every step of the way and believed I was capable of doing it. He even did the whole race with me! He has been a real diamond and I can’t thank him enough.
The race was especially tough yesterday due to the very hot weather and any one who knows the Ridgeway knows there is NO shade.!
Both suffering falls along the way we finished in 14 and a half hours 197th and 198th out of 1000 entrants on the day. 150 DNF, lots due to the heat. I came 1st lady in my new age category MV60. Absolutely delighted. Apart from a few stiff legs, we both escaped injury free.
I have so far raised £4,500 for the TCT with promises of more to come on completing the race.
Thank you to everyone from RSE who donated. And ready now for my next challenge (the stairs 😂) in a day or two!

Lesley Hinsley

This time last year, Lesley had only ever run one marathon but yesterday she did Race to the Stones in 14:29 – 23m further than she’s ever run and she was 1st 60VF! The heat on the Ridgeway where there was little shade was brutal and Lesley face planted early on. Lesley will raise £5K for Teenage Cancer.

Frampton 10k

This fast, flat 10k race has been popular amongst RSE members over the years, and was previously a club championship race. Run by Stroud AC, the course takes runners through the picturesque village of Frampton-on-Severn on a 1-lap route. As well as being a great race for runners seeking a PB, the event also offers a cider for finishers at the end!

Well done to Sharon Smith for completing the course in a brilliant time of 51:10 and finishing 1st LV65! It was Sharon’s first road race since January!

Just a Reminder

If you are running a club championship race and would like to be included in the championship results, you must wear an RSE race vest on the day. The only exceptions are if you’re running for a charity and would like to wear a charity vest, or if you’ve just started with the club and have not yet received a race vest.

If you have any questions, please contact Dave Witnall or Elaine Chapman.

If you would like a run or race included in the club report, don’t forget to message Ellie Taylor by 5pm Sunday each week
