RSE Club Report – Marathons, HMs and a lot of Parkruns!

Newport Marathon

The Newport Marathon is unsurprisingly popular, with a flat course that follows coastal paths and crosses through medieval villages. This year was Newport’s largest marathon yet, with over 8,000 runners taking part in the event.

Running for RSE was Nadine Brown, who finished in a brilliant time of 4:11:00!

I was kindly offered a place for Newport Marathon 6 weeks ago and as it fitted in with the ultra training I decided to give it a go at a ‘controlled’ pace! Over the moon to have finished in 4:11:00 when I’ve been having so much discomfort with my knee/ITB recently. It was a well organised event, super marshalls but a little quite at times – I was glad to get back into the city centre for the crowds support

Nadine Brown

Excellent running, Nadine!

Stroud Half Marathon

Following its cancellation in 2020, one of the UK’s longest established marathons, the Stroud Half Marathon was back. The route was a mix of town and country lane running, which is helpfully listed as ‘not flat’ on the official website. Despite the undulating warning, RSE’s Mark Garrett, Katy Miller and Elliot Gardiner achieved some impressive times!

  • Mark Garrett – 1:27:07
  • Elliot Gardiner – 1:58:44 – New PB!
  • Katy Miller – 2:00:20

Fastest half for 8 years, so happy with that. There was a bit of a headwind at times, but otherwise the conditions were good. Great to be back running Stroud, as it’s always a good event.

Mark Garrett

It wasn’t as hilly as I expected! I Stuck with the 2 hour pacer until mile 11 (after the dreaded industrial estate loop I was warned about coincidently!) and felt good (despite a couple of niggles) so pushed on for the sub 2 hour time I was hoping for. Very enjoyable race I will definitely be doing again which was made even better by all the local support! 😊 Great atmosphere!

Go Team RSE!!

Liverpool Rock N Roll Half Marathon

After running a half marathon and marathon this week (phew!), Zoe Markham-Lee took on the Liverpool Rock N Roll Half Marathon, part of the Rock N Roll running series which has races across the world. These fantastic events are notorious for their combination of running and good music, with a full line up of bands at the after show. The half marathon course begins at the Royal Albert Dock before taking runners on a tour of central Liverpool.

Zoe ran the course in an incredible time of 2:04:10, achieving a bran new PB!

A PB by over 2 minutes. I also did my first marathon distance this week and a big half Monday. The biggest week of running I’ve ever done.

Zoe Markham-Lee

Well done, Zoe!!
