RSE Racing Report – 20th May 2018

Berkeley 10k

There was a good turnout of RSE members taking part in a very warm Berkeley 10k on Monday 14th which is a flat, PB potential, course run on quiet country lanes around rural Berkeley. Tom Cooper ran an impressive 38:42, a new PB, to finish first for the club. Steve Phelps was next across the line in 47:13, followed by Martin Pitts in 48:58. Racing for the first time since becoming a dad was Graham Aitchison who finished in 51:11, closely followed by RSEs first lady Kirsty Pitts in a seasons best 51:27. Emma Hine took on the 10k for the first time and did so in a fantastic 55:23 (PB). Lovely Linda Edwards also ran for her 1st claim club, Bourton Road Runners, and finished in 56:20. Great work team.

Northleach 10k

Kate Potter and Jenny Hoffmann took part in this beautiful 10k in the North Cotswold countryside featuring fields of buttercups and rolling hills. They were greeted by great marshalls and plenty of water to drink and douse themselves with on a very warm Sunday morning. The race is in aid of Walking with the Wounded charity. Well done ladies for completing the race in 1:12:00 (awaiting official time).

Royal Berkshire 10k

Sunday saw the Green Park Royal Berkshire 10K start and finish by the lake in Green Park, Reading. The course is a one lap rural route around Pingewood lakes. It is flat and on good surfaces with very few twists and turns making it a fast route. Charlie Austin completed this in a new PB of 1:15:10. Well done, Charlie.

Race for Life

Elspeth Murano completed the Swindon Race for Life 5k on Sunday morning. The route, which meanders around Lydiard Park, taking in views of the house and lake, is two laps and is primarily on pathways with two short sections on mowed grass. The route has a section through the woods which includes a short sharp incline. Great work Elspeth for such a worthwhile cause.

Also raising valuable funds for beating Cancer was Kay Thompson who completed the Race for Life Pretty Muddy again in Lydiard Park, Swindon. This is a brilliant 5k muddy obstacle course which includes scrambling over the A-frame and crawling through the mud pit. Well done, Kay!

Tough Mudder

In the shadow of the historic Belvoir Castle, 16,000 acres of picturesque countryside was transformed into a mud-lover’s playground on Saturday. Taking on the 10 miles and 20+ obstacles in the Midlands were RSEs very own gladiators Gareth Roberts and Julia MacFarlane. Awesome work guys!

Rough Runner

Helen Berry and friends took on Rough Runner in Oxfordshire also on Saturday which includes a variety of inflatable obstacles and the ‘Travelator’! Well done, Helen!
