RSE Racing Report – 15th April 2018

Brighton

Sunday saw 9 RSE members complete the marathon and 1 complete the 10k. Both the marathon and the 10k started in Preston Park and finished along the seafront.

Since its inauguration, the Brighton Marathon has grown dramatically to become the Brighton Marathon Weekend. The course bests for the men and women are well under 2hrs10min and 2:29, making it the second-fastest marathon in the UK. It is also the second-largest marathon in the UK and eighth-largest in Europe. Following a muggy start, the wind and rain set in but this was welcome following such a warm day on the Saturday. Provisional results as follows.

First home for the club was Nadine Brown in 3:44:24, achieving a new PB. Dave Daniels completed the 26.2 in 3:45:16 (SB) followed by Dave Whitlow in 4:03:00 (SB). Elaine Chapman came home in 4:14:52 (SB) closely followed by Gareth Roberts achieving a fantastic new PB in 4:15:10. First timers Rosie Oates and Emma Hine both did RSE proud achieving 4:44:33 and 4:45:46 respectively; Rosie has also raised a fantastic amount for Cystic Fibrosis. Amanda Tyler completed her second marathon in a course PB of 5:11:13 (SB). Also running for charity was Jules Macfarlane who finished in 6:32:56 (SB) despite picking up an injury on the course. Well done everyone, you are all incredible!

In 2014, the super-fast BM10k was added to the weekend schedule and immediately stamped its importance on the rankings with the second-fastest time in the country that year. The course is fast and flat, taking participants through the city centre and finishing at the same finish as the Marathon, on Madeira Drive. Ben Chapman took part in the 10k, enjoying the cheering marathon crowds and completed the course in 47:27. Great work Ben!

Resolution Run

Elspeth Murano and Andy Masser completed this fantastic run in aid of the Stroke Association. This charity event, held at Lydiard Park, raises money to support people who are living with the impact of stroke. Well done Elspeth for completing the 10k! Andy Masser completed the 15k in 1:12:26, great work Andy!

parkruns

Swindon: Martyn Joyce 21:08 and Caroline Sandercock 33:55.

Linford Wood: Pete Whitmore 40:33.

  1. I’d just like to say well done to you all. You are a credit to the club. We know you all put in lots of hard training
    and it sure paid off.
I know Nadine does the report and she never gives herself real credit so I thought I’d do it for her. She not only smashed her PB but has
earn’t a good for her age place for London next year and for someone who didn’;t start running that long ago it is an amazing achievement !
So well done Nadine. You are all awesome.
