This Week’s Running – 22nd April 2017

LONDON MARATHON

Huge congratulations go to Ben Chapman and Pete Whitmore who ran in the infamous Virgin London Marathon on Sunday.  This iconic event brings over 39,000 runners to compete in this fantastic marathon, not to mention the thousands and thousands of supporters lining the streets along the way.  The course takes in many of the amazing landmarks of the city including, Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Canary Wharf, London Eye, Big Ben and so much more. This was Ben’s first marathon and he completed it in an amazing time of 3.56.28 (PB), followed by Pete in 6.39.41.  Well done you two great running.
ATHENS POSEIDON HALF MARATHON
Louise Abbott travelled a little further afield this week to the spectacular city of Athens, and competed in the Athens Poseidon Half Marathon, which is described as a fast beautiful course.  Well done to Louise, who despite the heat finished in 2.34.00.
SOUTHAMPTON HALF MARATHON & 10K
Steve Sandercock ran in the Southampton Half Marathon and Paul Coates, Caroline Coates and Caroline Sandercock ran in the 10k on Sunday, this event also included a Marathon and 1 mile fun run.  Both races included the same route but with the half marathon running through the huge expanse of the common, they both started at the Guildhall Square area and then the runners were taken back down into the city centre including a fantastic opportunity to ‘Beat the Bridge’ as they took on Itchen Bridge itself, at the top, nearly 100ft up they could admire the stunning view of the city and see out towards the Isle of Wight. Well done to all of our runners, Steve finished the Half in 1.58.52.  Paul finished the 10k in 51.32, followed by Caroline Coates in 1.04.10 and Caroline Sandercock in 1.09.38.
CORSHAM 10K
Well done to Richard Marshall who ran in the Corsham 10k on Sunday.  The course took the runners on an undulating route starting in the centre of historic Corsham, then following the country lanes to Neston, from there it was mostly downhill to the finish except for the last climb on Pound Hill at 9k before heading back to the finish.  Richard finished in 55.58.
